Dispatches from a Desert Isle: Javelinas

Alas, I have lost track of the days I have been held captive in this pleasant land. Little by little I acclimate to the gentle breezes and warming sun—though I hope to be free before the summer months come, as I suspect the sun be fierce at those times.

Though the isle is peaceful on the while, it is inhabited by certain wild creatures. The coyotes I have already mentioned, but we are bedeviled by hog-like creatures the locals call javelinas (Hah-vay-LEE-nahs)

The forage for their food, making low snuffling and gruntsHere they are at night, raiding the stores of a garden...

and in the daytime, ravaging a pumpkin (complete with pumpkin-camera) to the accompaniment the Nutcracker Suite:

Here's a wee baby javelina (OMG so cuuuuuuuuuute!):

and another baby, saved from coyotes:

They are smart creatures—sometimes too smart for humans, and I hope never to find myself on the receiving end of their attacks.

UPDATE:
Here are some photos of javelinas I saw with mine own eyes!!!

and some very important information about them...

...so beware if you hear them clacking their teeth!

On the friendlier side, there was a moment when I observed them in a moment of repose, and one even chose to come say hello!
